Did you know that it takes 64 pieces, 6 fabric types and 46 accessory types to make just one pair of FlexiWork trousers for Snickers Workwear? It doesn’t end with that. To complete them, it takes 40,000 stitches and 122 production minutes. Sounds quite complex, right?

To learn more about the construction of a pair of work trousers we talked to Margarita Kleinhofa, our Senior Product Developer, who is constantly on the hunt for perfection.

Tell us, how are a pair of Snickers Workwear trousers made?
Every moment of making a pair of trousers is a result of many years of experience. We put a lot of attention to every detail and every small piece is specifically chosen to create a product that offers excellent comfort. As an example, our FlexiWork trousers consist of 64 pieces, 6 fabric types and 46 accessory types, like buttons, buckles and labels. To complete them, it takes 184 production steps, 122 production minutes, 59.19 meters of cutting perimeter and 40,000 stitches.

64 pieces in one pair of trousers, why so many?
Because the human body is complex. To be able to offer the wearer maximum movability and to not feel constrained when wearing the clothes, we need to construct a shape that follows the body, no matter what size or style you choose. We also want to maximize the functionality of the trousers. Pocket compartments for example – one pair of trousers have at least 16 pocket compartments for different purposes.

What about the choice of fabric, thread and seams?
They have a major impact on the product, especially on comfort. We always consider several options of fabrics and test them both individually and in combination before starting the production. Which fabric we choose affect which thread we use. We have seam specifications for all our seams, as well as rules for stitching. For example, when making a bar tack, used to reinforce pockets or keep the kneepads in place, several rules apply to ensure it will not damage the fabric and still look nice.

Does my choice of size matter?
It matters a lot, both when it comes to comfort and durability. If you want your trousers to last, it’s important to choose the right size and style that fits well on your body and for your profession. It also affects the ergonomic functions as placement of the kneepads and pockets. A pair of trousers that fit you well will not constrain you during the work day. On the contrary they assist you by following your every move, no matter your working position.

So, what’s “the secret” behind a good pair of work trousers?
According to me, the secret is that it’s so much more than putting pieces of fabric together. It’s a team effort combining dedicated people, a lot of knowledge and extensive experience. A good pair of work trousers is a result of the positive energy that has been put into making them. There isn’t one recipe behind “the perfect pair of trousers”, all styles are unique.
